A dishonest employer is one of the greatest fears of any job seeker. Unfortunately, nowadays the labor market is full of scammers whose main objective is to earn money in any way. A lot of managers enjoy by the vulnerable situation of the candidate, especially if he/she is searching for a job for quite along time. In this article we will discuss the most commondeception schemes in order to help you avoid dubious deals and not fall for the scam.
The scheme №1: Charge for Employment
One of the most common deception schemes, especially among recruitment agencies, is the demand for payment for the information that may help find a job. The company promises successful passing of the job interview, but does not give any guarantees that you will be offered for a post. Actually dishonest organizations do not cooperate with employers and provide a list of vacanciesthat are for free access on theInternet.
As a rule such agencies are very difficult to prosecute. In fact, the client paid money voluntarily and probably has no confirming documents. Often these companies do notexist for a long time as they cease their activity and disappear with the money of job seekers. Services of real recruitment agencies are to be paid only by the employer.
The scheme №2: Payment for Product Samples
The second common variant of deception: the company invites the candidate to pass the job interview and offer to purchase product samples. Employer explains that there is a necessity for such purchase because the candidate must be aware of company products. In other cases the further cooperation is impossible. The next step is quite predictable: the candidate receives a rejection to be employed and the organization refuses to returnfunds.
Remember that honest and serious organizations do not require money or other material rewards from job seekers and do not offer to pay expenses for any documents and services.
The scheme №3: Free of Charge Work
Jobseekers should guard that the vacancy of the company which offers a good position with high wages remains open for a long period of time. In fact, this practice has become very popular among scammers and dishonest employers. The scheme is quite simple: during the job interview or through e-mail the candidate receives an offer to perform 1-2 tasks that allegedly will help determine the level of preparation and professional qualities. Simple arithmetic shows that if the work is performed by at least 20-30 people a day, the company will have enough material andthe level of expenditure will remain unchanged.
It is very difficult to declassify such scams because some of the posts (e.g. copywriters, journalists or editors) really require the performance of test tasks to check the skills ofa candidate and the quality of work. However, we strongly recommend you to look for the information about a potential employer via the Internet and specialized websites.
The scheme №4:"Additional" Employees
Continuously open vacancy may also mean that the employer is looking for job seekers in order to create or expand the base of potential candidates in the case of dismissal of company employees. Many directors and managers practice this variant to simplify the task in the future and to reduce time for finding a suitable person. It is practically impossible to define such a scheme, especially in large firms.
In any case, do not be upset: an invaluable experience and acquired knowledge will help to behave more confidently on other job interviews.
The scheme №5: The Chargefor Training Courses
A large number of fraud firmsoffer to pay for training courses and to buy educational materials before your formal employment.
Stay alert: practically in all cases good companies carry out education and additional courses only at their own expense.
Moreover, managers are interested that the employees get more knowledge and skills as most of them are convinced that the professional and qualified specialist is the key to the future success of the organization.
Scheme №6: Free Probationary Period
Free of charge labor is a very old type of fraud that is widely used by the employers. The essence of the scheme relies in the fact that after the successful passage of the job interview the employee is offered to undergo probationary period to become familiar with future duties (usually 1-2 months). Depending on the results the manager will decide the final decision on the employment. The main nuance - the time and efforts spent are not paidby the employer.
Needless to say, that after the completion of the probationary period the person is rejected to be employed. The main reason is that the candidate allegedly fails to meet the requirementsof the post.
If you have received such an offer and have any doubts, it is worth knowing that any work must be paid in accordance with the Nigerian Labor Act. It is better to sign the employment contract before the performance of duties

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is wary of newly promoted Hull dampening celebrations on his Stamford Bridge homecoming.
The Blues host Steve Bruce's side in Mourinho's return to the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, with the Chelsea boss putting his 60 match unbeaten run in the English top flight to the test.
''I don't like to play against teams that come from the lowerdivision, because when they come they come with a fantastic mentality,'' Mourinhosaid.
''They come as winners, they come as a team that week after week is winning matches and winning points.
''It's different to a team that survives in the Premier Leagueon the last day, they come with a fantastic attitude.''
Mourinho gave Manchester United counterpart David Moyes' complaints over the fixture schedule short shrift this week, but his Blues side could go to Old Trafford on August 26 in a healthy position, as they also play Aston Villa next Wednesday.
''It's always a difficult start,'' Mourinho said. ''We have to play two days after against Aston Villa, after that we have to go to Old Trafford, so our start is a very difficult one.''
Chelsea won the title in Mourinho's first two seasons in charge - 2004-05 and 2005-06 - before his September 2007 departure.
The first triumph brought Chelsea's first championship in 50 years.
''The first title we didn't start well, we lost against Man City (in October),'' Mourinho said.
''We were second. I rememberwe only came to the top of theleague when we won at West Brom and Arsenal played that same fixture.
''The second season we started very, very strong.
''We have to try to win, but there are people that say that a bad start is better than a good start. Of course, I prefer to start good. But the start is difficult.''
Mourinho, who has summer signings Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel pushing for debuts, is well aware he will be the centre of attention on Sunday, with a rapturous reception anticipated from thehome fans.
However, he hopes the supporters' energy will be used to encourage those on the pitch, rather than in the dugout.
''Our people is great in the sense of loyalty to the people that have given something to the club in the past, but I thinkthey have to focus on this game, this competition, try to make Stamford Bridge a tough place for everybody to play and make my people feel at home,'' he said.
Mourinho has changed in his near six-year absence from the Premier League, but his desire for success remains.
He added: ''DNA is the same, but I think people change. I feel myself in permanent transformation. You learn, youtry to improve.
''Of course I'm more mature, I have, I don't say a different personality, but a different way of prioritising things in life and in football.
''I feel myself very confident, very stable, with great maturity. (But) my nature doesn't change

Arsene Wenger can't bear to watch as Arsenal crash against Aston Villa. Th
The Gunners were beaten 3-1 by Villa, the start to the campaign that manager Arsene Wenger did not want as pressure continues tomount over a lack of new signings in North London, with not one penny of their transfer war chest yet spent.
Arsenal did make the perfect start when Olivier Giroud put Arsenal infront after six minutes, producing a great finish following great work from Alex Oxlade Chamberlain down the left.
But Arsenal were pegged back just 16 minutes later, with Christian Benteke heading in the rebound after his penalty was saved by Wojciech Szczesny, who looked to have redeemed himself after bringing down Gabriel Agbonlahor for the spot-kick.
Santi Cazorla was on the bench at the start of the game after being in Ecuador with Spain in midweek, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger threw on the Spaniard immediately after half time.
The pressure mounted on Villa as Giroud twice went close to doubling his tally, and Tomas Rosicky engineered an opportunity to get into the box but failed to test Brad Guzan in the visitors' goal.
Fabian Delph almost gave Villa the lead against the run of play, but Arsenal survived when his shot bounced back off the post. Moments later though, Arsenal conceded a second penalty after Laurent Koscielny fouled Agbonlahor, and Benteke steppedup to make no mistake with this time.
Arsenal's bid to get an equaliser suffered a body blow as Koscielny was given a red card, and Villa held firm when Guzan produced afine reflex save to tip Cazorla's effort onto the bar.
And for all of Arsenal's attempts tohit back, instead they conceded a third through debutant Antonio Luna after he was put through by Andreas Wiemann.
Liverpool had new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to thank for their 1-0 win at home to Stoke City, as he saved a late penalty to deny thevisitors a point.
Daniel Sturridge scored the only goal of the game in the 37th-minute after drilling in a 22-yard effort beyond Asmir Begovic.
Mignolet struggled to deal with several Stoke crosses into the Liverpool area, and he nearly cost his new side as Robert Huth hit the bar with a header.
Jordon Henderson was thwarted by the post as Liverpool pushed for a second goal, and Begovic was forced into two excellent saves to keep out Philippe Coutinho.
Stoke looked as though they weregoing to claim a point under new manager Mark Hughes when they were awarded a spot-kick after Daniel Agger handled in the box. However, Mignolet ensured he would keep a clean sheet on his debut by saving from Jon Walters in the 88th-minute.
Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan gave West Ham a 2-0 win over last season's Championship winners, Cardiff City.
Matt Jarvis was the provider for Cole to open the scoring after 13 minutes as his low cross enabled Cole to spin and fire his shot at goal. Nolan then doubled the lead 14 minutes from the end when heblasted in his first-time shot beyond David Marshall.
Norwich and Everton played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Carrow Road. Norwich led through Steven Whittaker, but two goals in the space of four second-half minutes saw Everton turn the game around. First, Ross Barkley levelled with his first-ever Premier League goal before Seamus Coleman turned the gameon its head.
But the Canaries were not to be denied a point on their own turf as Ricky van Wolfswinkel marked his first game for the club with the leveller.
Rickie Lambert, who scored on hisEngland debut in midweek, converted a 91st-minute penalty to give Southampton a deserved 1-0 win over West Brom. And Pajtim Kasami bagged the only goal for Fulham as Martin Jol's men collected maximum points at a new-look Sunderland.

Is Gareth Bale Worth £105m?
When we talk of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, it is believed that no other player in the world is of the same calibre. But this past season, Gareth Bale at Tottenham has proved otherwise.
The Welshman has had an absolutely sensational 2012/13 campaign. He has not only been scoring a lot of goals, but has also developed his game in a variety of ways.
Bale joined Spurs in 2007 from Southampton for a fee of £7m.
The 2012/13 season began with Tottenham challenging for the Champions League spot. Bale proved to be extremely important in Spurs living up to their ability.
The Wales international has scored 26 goals and picked up eight assists in all competitions this season and has rightfully been named as the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year - and also the Football Writers’ Player of the Year.
It's going to take a word-record fee for Real Madrid to prise Gareth Bale away from Tottenham but is the winger really worth £100million?
Real Madrid think so. They think it would be money well spent but some analysts disagree with the Spanish giants.
What about you? Do you thinkBale is worth £85m. Yes or No?

Before I Write A Book (Part 2) - By Basketmouth
As I pay respect to those great men that changed my life, the seemingly little gestures that shaped me and have made me who I am... I recall another long evening...
Year 2000, Fame pre-award concert. Dele Olukoju and Wale Oluwaleimu were the stage/project managers. I had met Wale before then and he hadsuggested I come perform in my bid to build a name.
I went there with a friend of mine,we had spent the last kobo on us transporting ourselves andgetting food to eat as the event didn't start early enough.Continue...
My performance was done @ aboutmidnight. It was a great outing for me. As it was time to leave,I met with the show organisers hoping I'd be paid formy service or get a little change for transport. Unfortunately, communication had gone wrongsomehow as they thought I was doing the performance for free.
It dawned on me at that moment, that I was in trouble.
My friend and I then decided to just hang around as the concert was still on and our last hope was that we might get a free ride.
By2am, the concert was still banging in full swing and I was totally exhausted. While moving around I met Six Foot Plus and Terry D Rapman...now, I was a big fan of their work and so we got talking. It so happened that they loved my performance that evening so we hit it off immediately.
After some minutes of small talk, I swallowed my ego and pride and brought myself to ask Six Foot Plus for transport money, hedidn't have much on him but he split what he had and gave me N60 which was more than enough to cover our bus fare.
We happily bounced out from theconcert, confident. We approached the main road and as God will have it,there was a bus going our way. In 30mins we were in Yaba, walking to Railway Compound-Ebute Meta where I was staying.
By4amI lay in my little corner, the end of another successful day in my struggle for relevance, I was happy at my chance to perform.
Exhausted by my ordeal but mostimportantly, I was grateful for that rapper who shared all he had on him with me, my new friend and saving grace, Six foot Plus

ASUU Threatens To Cancel Post-UME Exams In Universities
Thousands of students whowrote the university-organised matriculation examinations, commonly called Post-UME, during university lecturers strike may have engaged in a futile exercise and may be forced to re-write the examination as lecturers complain they had no input in the exercise.
Speaking at a press conference called by the Ibadan Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Lagos State University, Ojo, the Zonal Coordinator, Adesola Nassir, said the leadership of the universities that have conducted the examination hurriedly did so because of the financial gains accruable from the candidates.
“It is an abnormality,” he said. “How can you hold such an important examination without the input of academic staff,” he asked.
“Vice-chancellors are employing non-academic staff and consultant to do Post-UME. They are doing it because of money. The exam already constitutes a crisis-point in the universities.”
Mr. Nassir said the “results from the examination may be jettisoned.”
After writing the government sanctioned Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), most individual universities in Nigeria require students to pass internally organised matriculation examinations called Post-UME.
In most cases, an average a student’s score from both examinations is considered before the student is granted admission. This arrangement started in 2005 over complaints aboutthe falling standard of UTMEby universities.
The Ibadan Zone of ASUU comprises University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI), Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Lagos State University (LASU), University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), and Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED)

How a Delsu undergraduate & friend were Lynched in Lagos
Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.
An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyreswere also put round their necks.
An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”
At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewingthe boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, anaccusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of one of the victims.
Nwainokpor could be seen pleading with the hoodlums and policemen to spare his life, saying he could identify himself ifgiven a chance. His plea, however, fell on deaf ears.
Our correspondent, who visited the family of Nwainokpor on Tuesday, learnt that the lynching took place around 3pm on July 21, 2013 in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from Nwainokpor’s family home.
His father, Samuel, told PUNCH Metro that his son was arrested while passing through a street inthe area but a misunderstandinglater ensued and the hoodlums pounced on him and Kazeem.
He added that Nwainokpor, whowas nicknamed Ify, was a final year student of Geology and Mining.
He said, “On that particular day, I was in Ghana when I received a telephone call that I should comeimmediately. My wife was in DeltaState taking care of her mother.
“When I arrived two days later, my relatives and the caretaker of my house told me that my son was killed in the Ajara area alongwith his friend. I was devastated.
“I got my son a temporary job with a Customs licensed agent since their lecturers were on strike. He worked everyday except on Sundays when he visited his friends. On that day, he went to see Kazeem and they were strolling around Ajara.”
Samuel said because there had been a robbery in Ajara four daysearlier, some of the residents were on the lookout for strange faces.
He added that when the youth saw two unknown young men, they accosted them and an argument ensued.
He said the youth called the headof the vigilante group in the area, one Asiribo.
He said, “Asiribo came to the scene with a locally-made pistol and handcuffs. He handcuffed myson and his friend before askingthem questions.
“Later, it was decided that the boys be taken to the Baale, Agano Oniyon of Agamade Ajara. But as they were going, Asiribo, while trying to return his gun into its pouch, mistakenly shot himself in the stomach and died.”
Samuel said Asiribo’s death infuriated the youth, who blamed the boys for his death.
“The mob picked up sticks and beat them to death. Policemen were there,” he said.
Holding back tears, the retired immigration officer added that the police treated the matter as arobbery case. Beating his chest, Samuel said there was no way his son would have been involved in armed robbery.
He said, “I have been living in Badagry since 1982. I have only two children and Ifechukwude isthe first. Ironically, he was born in that same area where he was killed.
“I have lived in this area without any trouble and the residents can tell you that my sons are good boys.”
Nwainokpor’s boss, Aloysius Onyenibedi, described him as an honest and hardworking person.
“I trusted him to the extent that Iused to keep a lot of money with him. He was good to my children and was honest,” he said.
The Nwainokpor family berated the Divisional Police Officer, Badagry Police Station, Dankoli Mohammed, for the manner he treated the case.
Samuel said when he approached the DPO, he was toldthat his son was killed at midnight for armed robbery.
He said, “When the policemen came to take the corpses, guns were planted on them. Policemenat the station told the DPO that they were robbers. Their corpseswere taken along with that Asiribo to Badagry General Hospital’s mortuary.
“The following morning, the DPO released Asiribo’s corpse for burial without investigation. My relatives went to the station and after showing the DPO the video, the matter was transferred to theArea K Command.
“At Present, Asiribo’s son has fled, while the DPO has been unable to identify the policemen who were present at the scene when my son and his friend were killed.”
PUNCH Metro however learnt thatthrough the video, some people had arrested one of the perpetrators. The suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

29 Feared Dead In Kano Multiple Blasts
Twenty nine fun seekers were feared dead and many injured, Monday night, in the multiple blasts that occurred at Christmas quarters in the Sabon Gari area inKano.

The Sabon Gari area of Kano, where four blasts were reported, is full out of outdoor bars and eateries and known for its bustlingnightlife.
According to reports the first blast occurred at about 9:12 p.m. at Enugu/Igbo Road near International Hotel, while the second blast followed three minutes later, at exactly 9:15 P.M.
The Spokesman of the Joint Task Force, Captain Ikedichi Iweha did confirmed Kano multiple blasts, and warned residents to remain calm as heavily armed security operatives have cordoned off the area as at the time of filling this report.
"We have had some explosions in Sabon Gari this evening. The explosions happened at open air beer parlours, where people were playing snooker," Kano State Police Commissioner Musa Daura told AFP.
"I can confirm six dead and six others injured," he said, adding that the cause of the blasts was not immediately clear.
"There is confusion all over the place," said Chinyere Madu, a fruit vendor. "There were four huge explosions, so huge that they shook the whole area. Everywhere is enveloped in smoke and dust."
She told AFP the scene was too chaotic to assess the extent of the damage, but said she "saw one person carrying someone on his shoulders with bleeding legs."
"My house is not far from there," resident Kola Oyebanji told AFP. "Allmy windows are shattered."
Other residents said that a small church sandwiched between two bars had been among the targets.
The blame was likely to fall on Boko Haram, the Islamist insurgentgroup which says it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria's mainly north.
The group, which has carried out waves of bombings across northern Nigeria, has been blamedfor coordinated suicide blasts at a bus park in Sabon Gari in March that killed at least 41 people.
Kano has been among the cities hardest hit during the Boko Haram's insurgency, even if in recent months it had seen a lull in attacks.
Following a massive coordinated gun and bomb assault in January of 2012 that killed at least 185 people, security forces blanketed the city, setting up checkpoints at many roundabouts and intersections.
Nigeria launched a massive offensive against Boko Haram in May, specifically targeting three states to the east of Kano. Since then, the security forces have claimed huge gains against the insurgents, insisting that they haveput them on the defensive.
Attacks eased after the offensive was launched but the bloodshed has persisted in some areas.
At least three schools have been attacked in northeastern Nigeria by suspected Boko Haram members.
Over the weekend, a vigilante raid and reprisal attack by Boko Haram members left at least 20 people dead in the village of Dawashe in Borno state.
The insurgency is estimated to have killed more than 3,600 peoplesince 2009, including killings by the security forces.
Aside from churches and other targets linked to the Christian community, Boko Haram has attacked the security forces, Muslim clerics and various symbols of authority.
Nigeria is Africa's most populous country and top oil producer, roughly divided between a mostly Christian south and predominately Muslim north.

Retired Zookeeper Eaten By His Tigers As He Tried To Feed Them
Mauro Lagiard, 72, was attacked from behind while his wife Carla, 73, could onlywatch from outside the enclosure as the animals dragged his body into a clearing
A retired zookeeper was torn to pieces and eaten by at least three of his tigers ashe tried to feed them.
Mauro Lagiard, 72, was attacked from behind while his wife Carla, 73, could only watch from outside the enclosure.
The beasts dragged Mr Lagiard’s lifeless body 100 feet into a clearing.
Alpha-male Samir started the horrific mauling as the pensioner tried to feed the tigers chicken meatballs on Tuesday night.
Two others joined in while five cubs watched from the sidelines.
It took paramedics half an hour to get close to his dismembered body.
Mr Lagiard was devoted to Samir even though he also attacked him two years ago.He was in hospital for eight months.
Yesterday his wife still refused to blame the tigers. She said: “My husband and Samir did not get on. If I had gone it would never have happened.”
But neighbours said the animals were only fed twicea week and had become aggressive.
The couple had always beenbig cat lovers and originally kept tigers and leopards at a villa outside Turin, Italy.
But neighbours complainedand the cats were moved tothe Martinat Oasis animal sanctuary.
The couple continued to look after the beasts, living in a camper van nearby, after it shut in 2010.
A keeper who had worked there with the couple said Mr Lagiard was very sure of himself.
He said: “He never took any precautions. He went in, he gave them their food and he left. He had no fear, even though in the past he had been attacked by the tigers.
The cats are currently in thecare of vets while their fate is decided.

Thailand-based Nigerian Caught With Drug At Lagos Airport.
A 22-year-old Nigerian, who lives in Thailand, Ilechukwu Ejikonye Jude, has been apprehended with 1.295kg of substances found to be methamphetamine on his way to Thailand.
The drug, hidden inside the luggage of the suspect, was detected during the screening of passengers on Ethiopian Airline flight at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
The suspect has confessed to investing N750,000 in drug trafficking.
Speaking on the development, the Lagos airport commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Hamza Umar, said the drug was carefully hidden in the suspects’ luggage.
According to Ilechukwu, who said he was lured into the drug deal by a friend he met in Thailand,“I am a businessman. I relocated to Thailand lastyear where I buy goods and send to Nigeria. It was in Thailand that I met a man who introduced me to drug business.
“He gave my number to his partner in Lagos who lodged me in a hotel. They made me to offer N750,000 as my contribution and promised me a handsome reward on arrival in Thailand. My focus was on the profit that will accrue to me, it was when I was arrested that I realised I had madea big mistake.”
Also, a 36-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Akpata Martin Chukwudi, who was given $800 for ingesting 20 wraps of cocaine, while narrating his ordeal, said he ingested the drug in Brazil and was apprehended at the Lagos Airport.
While he was on observation, the suspect allegedly excreted 20 wraps of cocaine weighing 350 grammes.
“I saw hell trying to ingest the drugs in Brazil. They brought about 100 wraps but I was only ableto ingest 20. They were angry and disappointed but the more I force myself, the more difficult it was for me to swallow.
“Eventually, they gave me $800 in anger insteadof $5,000. I actually decided to smuggle drugs because I needed money to settle my mother’s hospital bill”.
NDLEA chairman, AhmaduGiade, said the agency would investigate all cases and bring drug culprits to justice.

Letting your 4 year old son live as a girl...
This is a bit confusing to me so decided to bring it here so we can talk about it. Is there any way a 4 year boy can know without any doubts that he wants to be a girl?
Kathryn and Jeremy Mathishave five children, including a set of triplets, one of which is a boy named Coy. Now according to Kathryn the mum, Coy, who loves pink, began gravitating toward girls’ toys and clothes by 18 months. Gender eventually turned into a bigger issue when Coy asked, at age 4, “When arewe going to go to the doctor to get me fixed so Ican be a girl?” A psychologist confirmed then that Coy was indeed transgender, at which point the parents decided to let ‘Coy be who she was.’
Coy at 6 years old is now living as a transgender. The problem now is that Coy has been banned fromusing the girl’s bathroom at her school, and the parents have filed a formaldiscrimination complaint against the school throughthe help of a lawyer. The parents are fighting for her right to use the girl's bathroom, but after all said and done, he still has a penis.
So if my 4 year old boy loves pink, says he wants to be a girl, I will let him live as a girl? Why not wait till he hits puberty to see if he'll grow out of it? Is it not too early to be slapping labels on kids, especially ones that carry such life altering meanings?

OGUGU SCHOOL SSCE (LAGOS) RESULTS CANCELLED, AFTER 4 YEARS.
•Affected undergraduates’ fate unknown
In 2008, Sulaiman Ismail, now 23, was one of about 200 candidates that Ogudu Senior Grammar School, Ogudu, GRA, Ojota, Lagos, presented for the May/June Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the West African ExaminationCouncil (WAEC). When theexamination body released the results in September same year, the candidate, with examination number 4251410254 was one of the few who recorded average performance.
Details of his results are as follows: English Language- C6; Mathematics- B2; Agricultural Science- B3; Biology- C5; Chemistry- C4; Physics- C4; Economics- D7; Geography-D7 while absent was recorded against Government. In 2009, Ismail wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and scored 213. He subsequently scored 80 per cent in the Post-UTME conducted by the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, his preferreduniversity, where he was eventually admitted to study Computer Science.
He is not only four years into his studies, he is already preparing for his graduation when the unexpected happens.
As part of the prerequisites for graduation, he appeared at relevant university’s departments for clearance. At the Examination and Records Department, he was asked to prove the authenticity of the SSCE result he earlier presented and upon which he was offered admission. Innocently, Ismail supplied the detailed information to verify the ownership and that was when he received the shocker of his life.
“We logged on to WAEC’s website and rather than displaying my grades against each subject that I registered, all I could see was “cancelled” against every subject except Government which I did not write andthey put ABS, which means absent. And it waslike a dream to me at that point and even till now,” Ismail explained.
In his confused state, Ismail, a First Class material with current Cumulative Gradient Point (GPA) of 4.64, left Ilorin for Lagos on Thursday, February 14, and headed straight to his school to enquire about the situation. “When I got to the school, I met the new principal, Mr. Benedict and his deputy, Mrs. Adeniran, who told me they were also shocked to receive the news from some of my mates with similar experience.
When I probed further, I was only directed to the father of one of my mates, who they claimed had better information on the matter,” the astonished student narrated further. He wentto meet his mate’s father,Mr. Owoyemi Moses, who told him that his son, Oluwatosin Owoyemi, was also affected by the development. But unlike Ismail, the boy was in 200-level at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti when he discovered there was a problem with his WAEC result.
Oluwatosin wasn’t at home when National Mirror visited, but his father said the trouble started in April 2012 when his son was processing his course registration as a 200-level student and discovered that his results earlier released byWAEC had been cancelled.
“The boy was weeping when he told me and I could not believe my earsbecause he had checked same result on WAEC website and printed it four years earlier. We also got a statement of result from the school and the portion of a copyof the master sheet from WAEC that contains his details. So, how come almost four years after that he went online again to discover that, hisresults had been cancelled? “I pacified himand asked him to return to Lagos so that we couldfind out what was amiss. When we got to the school, I was surprised that they were not even aware of the development.
We were only told that the students had been coming for their certificates and that they had written officially to WAEC to know why the certificates were yet to be released three years after exam,” Owoyemi narrated. One of the school teachers, simply identified as Mr. Solanke, volunteered to follow Oluwatosin and his fatherto Ikorodu office of WAEC,which controls Ojodu area. There, they met with the officer in charge,Mr. Olu Adekeye.
A letter of complaint had earlier been sent to the office by the school. “But surprisingly, the officer incharge told us he had no knowledge of any letter from the school concerning the matter and addressed to his office.
At that point, he got to know that the letter was received by a subordinate, Mr. Okonkwo, but who neverpassed it to the relevant office for action,” Owoyemi alleged.
The matter later took thecomplainants to the Ikejaoffice of WAEC, from where the officer in charge of the office, simply identified as Mrs. Agwu wrote officially to the Nigeria’s head office of the council at Yaba for action.
While these were on, the school claimed it had informed the affected students that WAEC had responded to letter sent earlier and that the council complained of having problem in embossing on their certificates what they called blur photographs they provided during registration and that it would require replacements.

President Goodluck Jonathan's message toNigerians
Our dear president posted this on his Facebook page this afternoon. See the full message after the cut..
Dear friends on facebook,
The determination of this administration to create wealth in Nigeria and for Nigerians has led us to focus our investment drivetowards attracting ForeignDirect Investments in manufacturing and the service sector to ensure that jobs are created. And this drive is not an exercise in futility as Nigeria is becoming the preferred destination for FDI. Just last week, GeneralElectric announced a decision to invest $1 billion in setting up a manufacturing plant to support power generationand oil production. Their plant, to be situated in Calabar, will provide jobs for thousands with multiplier effect for tens ofthousands more and will make Nigeria a hub for power equipment in the region. The end result of this investment is that Nigeria’s power generating infrastructure will be expanded meaningmore power for Nigerians which translates to even more jobs.
While we continue to encourage the Private Sector to help grow our economy and create jobs for our youths, we will do all within our powers to also keep our youths engaged. In this regard I am happy to report that the 600 bed Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State which this administration began working on in February 2011. This project has reached 95% completion and when commissioned later this year it will provide jobs for 3000 people. Similar projects are ongoing in other geo-political zones and I will keep you updated.
Similarly, ongoing massiveinvestments in the rehabilitation of our railways are being carried out with direct labour, thereby providing jobs to thousands of our youths especially around the Ilorin-Minna-Kaduna-Kano corridor of our rail network. In addition to the regular Lagos to Kano service, the Nigerian Railway Corporation has introduced new routes including the Offa-Kano intercity service. These initiatives are generating employment and providing an inexpensive means of travel as well as an alternative means of hauling heavy goods and petroleum products to thehinterland.
Rehabilitation works are also ongoing in the nation’s pipelines to ensure a resumption of the supply of petroleum products by pipelines all over the nation thus reducing the pressure on our roads and railways and freeing up space for hauling other products. Jobs are being created as this is ongoing and moribund services are being resumed.
Just last month, the Benin Depot of the Pipeline Product Marketing Company (PPMC) was reopened after a successful completion of rehabilitation works. Products can now be transferred by pipelines tothis facility.
And it is not just in the service sectors that we areseeing construction and rehabilitation. During the maiden meeting of the Executive Council of the Federation meeting, the Federal Government approved the establishment of three new universities in Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfara states. Apart from the jobs that the construction works will generate in those states, value is being added to the local economy as more citizens will have access to tertiaryeducation with its attendant effect in wealth generation and improved health.
My dear friends on facebook, may God bless you, even as I pray for Almighty God to bless our country, Nigeria. GEJ
We Won’t Underrate Mali –Mikel
Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel has cautioned his teammates that it would be calamitous to underrate their opponents, Mali in Wednesday's semifinal at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
Nigeria qualified for the lastfour at the expense of the Ivory Coast with an impressive 2-1 victory at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg to set up a semifinal date with Mali's Eagles.
Mikel is calling on the fans of the Super Eagles to exercise restraint ahead of the game against Mali which he predicts will be tough.
"We cannot afford to look beyond the semifinals now because that would be disrespectful to Mali," Mikel said.
The Chelsea midfielder however stated that the Super Eagles would go through if the players approach the game with the right spirit.
"We just have to keep doing what we are doing and keep our feet on the ground. We have to keep training hard and believing in ourselves and hopefully we will qualify for the final," he said.

Countdown: 3 Days To FIFA 2012 Ballon D’or, Who Wears The Crown?
Previously two separate awards, the FIFA player of the year award and the Ballon d’Or, these merged in 2010 to form the FIFA Ballon d’Or and three exceptional players are in the race to wear this coveted crown – Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal/Real Madrid), Andres Iniesta (Barcelona/Spain) and LionelMessi (Argentina/Barcelona).
Following that the FIFA Ballon d’Or is an award of individual merit, Messi is favourite to clinchthe prize after consecutively winning the last three editions. What’s more, momentum is certainly one thing working in Messi’s favour as his individual performance in the year under review has been nothing but phenomenal.
But then, we ask, who are you placing your bet on to win the award? Will it be the dazzling Cristiano Ronaldo, the magical Andres Iniesta or phenomenal wonder kid, Lionel Messi?

The victim, who is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, was said to have boarded a taxi cab with four male passengers from Odion Road to her residence in Aguowe Street, Off Mac Demot Road.

The former Newcastle striker, who is the joint third highest Premier League goal scorer this season, will be eligible for Chelsea's FA Cup tie at Southampton on Saturday the club said.
"It feels good to be here, I'm very happy and very proud," the 27-year-old Senegalese forward said.
"When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision is very easy. This club is massive and that's something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one."
